Monitoring and management of the invasive alga Undaria pinnatifida

FACTS
Undaria pinnatifida is a brown seaweed native to Japan, northern China, and Korea. It invaded southern California in 2000, and quickly spread northward, reaching Monterey Harbor in August 2001. Invasive species, such as Undaria, spread beyond their native range and into new habitats. In many cases, humans have unintentionally facilitated the spread of invasive species.
